Since dawn here is about 5:30 am we were awake and ready to depart Port Trent Marina for the Trent Severn Canal system. We pulled away from the dock around 6:30 and headed the short distance to Lock 1. M\V Jessica Grace from New York who was had completed the loop and had a for sale sign on their boat was already the the blue line dock as she had spent the night there on the dock. We tied up and then were quickly followed by about a dozen boats on the opposite wall as well. We walked up to the dam and also to the lock and enjoyed our cup of coffee at the top as we met a boat from Freeport, Florida. So we were the second boat in the first lock of the day and it went smoothly as you wrap your bow line to a cable and your stern line to a cable and you tend the lines at the water level moves. Our lock mate took pictures of us as well as handing out candy to the student lock tenders. It was a nice overcast day compared to the heat wave the day before. We were paired up with them until we pealed off at Lock 8 on the blue wall to spend the night with two local boats and another looper boat M\V Navy Lady from Virginia. It was a pleasant evening as we had a slight breeze and the horse flies were not as vicious as they had been when we had been surrounded by marsh. It was a quiet evening being in a rural location with a guitar serenade from Navy Lady. We both got bitten by flies through our gloves and shirt so we made an early escape down below.
