Mathews to Ware River near Gloucester, Virginia

We pulled anchor after breakfast in town and headed out the East River to Mobjack Bay and then up the Ware River to anchor on the upper Ware River anchorage with a boat ramp upriver to dock and go ashore to Gloucester.

Putting down Put In Creek
Thursday morning we headed into the Ware Point Boat Launch and tied up the dinghy. It was a wonderful shady walk up to the main road in the heart of Gloucester's historic district with sidewalks all the way to the courthouse roundabout. We had a delicious breakfast at the Courthouse Restaurant and enjoyed window shopping along the main street all the way to the historic courthouse monument in the middle of the roundabout. We turned around there and stopped to read all the historic signs at the restored Texaco Station now the headquarters for an archaeological dig out at the foundation of a historic plantation several miles outside of town. After our 7-mile hike, we pulled anchor since were we edging into the channel with more boat traffic than we anticipated.
