Irvington to Jackson Creek Marina, Deltaville, VIrginia

After a delicious corned beef hash and eggs breakfast on the boat, we pulled anchor and headed back down the Rappahannock River and under the bridge. We turned into the channel to explore the multiple marinas at Stingray Point which is the other side of Deltaville from Jackson Creek off the Piankatank River. We rounded the point and headed up the Piankatank River before turning into Jackson Creek and the marina next to Deltaville Boatyard, We were hot at the dock waiting for a pumpout and fuel before returning to our slip with now a huge catamarn on the bulkhead next to us. The air conditioning was welcoming as we spend our last day tomorrow here in Deltaville before we drive to Valparaiso.

Stingray Point Lighthouse is now at the Stingray Point Marina
We did our last sightseeing around Deltaville and then spent the rest of the day Tuesday getting the boat ready to leave at the dock before we drove home with Pam and Bob to Valparaiso. We spent a week there getting ready to fly to London for a month hiking England and Ireland with Road Scholar. We will return to Deltaville in October with Cutie Too to haul the boat into Deltaville Boatyard for the winter before returning in the spring to head north to the Great Lakes and Canada,

Urbana to Yopp's Cove and John's Neck at Irvington, Virginia

We headed back down Urbana Creek to the Rappahannock and down to the Carrotoman River entrance where we continued on towards Irvington. We anchored at Yopp's Cove and dinghied over to the Tides Inn to dock. We left the dinghy and walked to Irvington stopping at the Steamboat Museum for a cool reprieve from the heat. We passed by the Holly Inn where they had moved the Dog Mini Vineyard and Oyster Bar but it was too hot even in the shade to consider the wine tasting. We headed back to the boat and then moved back out to anchor off John's Neck in the Rappahannock River to get more of the breeze. They guys got a cool down shower on the stern steps and ended up with our lawn chairs on the front deck in the shade. The cold gin and tonic drinks at happy hour finally cooled us down.

Deltaville to Urbanna Creek, Urbana, Virginia

We waited for the rain to pass on Thursday and left the dock with Pam and Bob on board headed around Stingray Point and up the Rappahannock River up Urbanna Creek to Urbanna. We were the only boat in the anchorage for most of our visit except for a derelict boat on a mooring. We headed ashore to the Urbanna Town dinghy dock after a tour of the harbour and up the hill to the Visitor Center. We had a great tour of the museum and the huge historic map. We headed downtown and went as far as the cafe Where the Sidewalk Ends and then back to Something Different for homemade ice cream. Our last stop was the old general store of Bristows for a step back in time. We had an enjoyable happy hour and dinner on the boat.

On Saturday morning, a cruiser directed us to her favorite restaurant of the Wooden Pickle so that was our first stop. We then took a walk along the waterfront waiting for the farmer's market to open. We all purchased some goodies before coming back to Virginia Cafe for lunch. We waited around for the trolley and then had a thity minute tour around town out to the RV resort and senior residences before heading back to the boat for another enjoyable happy hour and dinner at anchor.

Piankatank River to Jackson Creek, Deltaville, VIrginia

We left Berkely Island and headed back out the Piankatank River turning into Jackson Creek on Monday afternoon. We got fuel and a pump-out and headed into our bulkhead inside slip before the wind picked up. The VHF radio came on with a tornado watch for counties north of us so we were glad to get in before the front blew through. We enjoyed happy hour listening to the birds from the picnic table in the shade next to the pool. We grilled out on the screened-in porch and talked with a fellow cruiser.

On Tuesday morning after pleasant sleeping in the air conditioning, we woke up to a cool morning after the front passed through. We never got any rain last evening. We walked to Cafe by the Bay for our breakfast panini and then onto Hurd Hardware Store for supplies. We are looking forward to Pam and Bob arriving on Wednesday so busy getting the boat shipshape for company.

On Wednesday morning, we took the marina bikes to breakfast at the Cafe by the Bay and then headed towards Stingray Point to check out the Cross Rip campground on the river. After doing more laundry and scrubbing down the boat, the Stewarts arrived and we jumped in the marina pool and enjoyed the shade with a cool beer. We grilled steaks out on the screened-in porch and had a great happy there as well.

On Thursday, the four of us walked to Cafe on the Bay for the breakfast panini and then headed to the Maritime Museum along the Holly Point Trail. We toured the grounds waiting for the 10 am opening of the museum. The museum was rebuilt after a fire in 2012 and is beautifully presented. We walked through the children's garden and flower garden before heading to the dock and living shore oyster exhibit. The rain started and we scurried back to get in the truck and drive to Kilmarnock for a delicious lunch at the Car Wash Cafe, Then off to Good Luck Cellars winery for a superb wine tasting on their spacious covered deck as the rain continued. Back to the boat for cooking up a marina sauce with Italian sausage and homegrown peppers and eggplants over pasta
