Oxford to La Trappe Creek off Choptank River, Trappe, Maryland

On our last day in Oxford, we did boatwork this morning and skipped breakfast planning on eating lunch at Doc's Sunset Grille. When we arrived at noon most folks had reservations for Father's Day on the porch so we headed to the outdoor bar and were the only ones there. After our first beer and the hot crab dip with Bavarian pretzel bread, the place was filled with every seat taken. We had sweet chili chicken wings and another beer saving ourselves for dessert at the Scottish Highland Creamery. We sat in the park enjoying our ice cream and still managed to get a three-mile walk in before returning to the boat and pulling anchor and heading up the Choptank River to La Trappe Creek. About a dozen boats were anchored around the mouth behind a spit of sandy beach with No Trespassing signs they were ignoring. We passed the next anchorage with one sailboat and we are anchored by ourselves at the next anchorage off a huge brick mansion. What a beautiful creek!

On the Juneteenth holiday, we dinghied up La Trappe Creek to Trappe Landing. We walked along the shady road past Peterson Marina and Boatyard and along past cornfields and wheat fields to the The Coffee Trap Cafe in the old bank building. We had a delicious breakfast at the shady picnic table outside and then walked through the historic district to the Produce Stand which does not open until June 25. Almost all the boats departed from the anchorage down the creek when we returned. Here the crabbers do not pull crab pots but have trout lines so at least it is easier to navigate the anchorages.
