Onancock, Virginia to Mill Creek at Solomon's Island, Maryland

We got an early start leaving Onananck to cross the bay above the mouth of the Potomac River which can make for a rough crossing. Even with a gentle north wind, we traveled down below for a smoother ride. We cut through the channel at Tangier's Island and then went full speed at 14 knots across the shipping channel and then slowed down to calm seas to the Patuxent River at Soloman's Island. We went up Mill Creek and are anchored with one other boat. Tomorrow we'll head in by dinghy to the Calvert Maritime Museum.

This morning after breakfast on the boat since we could not find any closeby breakfast for eating out we headed to the museum. Turns out we took the wrong branch of the waterway and ended up at the Old Oyster House Exhibit of the Calvert Maritime Museum dinghy dock and the museum was closed due to flooding. We backtracked and found the town's public dock with pump-out and restrooms next to the Southern Maryland Sailing School. We walked along the boardwalk and then on the brick sidewalk that went all the way out to the shopping areas. We found our chartbooks at West Marine and more Irish Creme at the liquor store. We had gone past the Calver Museum when we saw it was packed with kids and headed the extra mile to the Weiss Food Market. We then took the dinghy to the Tiki Bar and Grill Bar dinghy dock for a draft beer and boiled shrimp. We walked along the shore near the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Lab complex before returning for a harbor cruise past the many marinas. Back to the boat and the wind picked up and we were dragging anchor so we moved around the bend further up Mill Creek to another anchorage out of the breeze.
