We spent yesterday enjoying the gulf side beach along Saint Joseph Penisula State Park. Hurricane Michael destroyed the campgrounds and cabins and made a temporary cut between the bay and the gulf cutting off the road. There is heavy equipment on the beach as they start to build the sand up to restore the road. The inland section of the beach is roped off as they have planted sea oats to stabilize the dunes hit hard by the storm. The small concession Sea Scallop Too is open along with bathrooms at the rental boat dock alongside the launching ramp that has been rebuilt. We ended the day in shorts on the flybridge for happy hour as the fog rolled back in. This morning we got up and left in the dense fog heading across St Joe Bay to the Intracoastal past White City. There were no boats at the dock, a work barge was blocking one launching ramp and the pilings and dock were gone along the perimeter and along with the dock further down the river all being rebuilt finally. The fog persisted all the way past Appalachicola and we could barely see the bridge to Saint George Island. We heard diesel engines and kept blowing our air horn and finally on the radar we could see the three dredge barges come out of the fog. The sun came out briefly as we headed up Carrabelle River to the fuel dock at The Moorings Marina. The current made it tough to get into our slip across the river from the Captain's Louge at the new docks. The young boater on Sea Ranch came by to say hello as we hooked up power and water. There is a flash flood warning for the panhandle for the huge amount of rain expected over the weekend. We are glad to be snug at the dock.
