St. James to Mile Hammock anchorage near Swansboro, North Carolina

We were up at dawn to leave the dock and head towards Mile Hammock anchorage which is surrounded by marine-restricted property. We were in the midst of major boat traffic crossing the Cape Fear River until the Intracoastal waterway veered off. We had to wait for the Wrightsville Beach drawbridge which only opens once an hour because of conflicting information on closed bridge clearance so we called the bridgetender and he provided no clarity. The depth boards were not visible and he said 15 feet so we waited. The next swing bridge we were able to go under but the two sailboats behind us were too slow and were delayed until the next hourly opening We do enjoy the freedom of not stopping for most drawbridges. The anchorage already had five boats and we can hear live fire going on. We are anchored up near the marsh grass shore near the landing and have seen a few marines in uniform. We'll see if there are any night exercises for entertainment to celebrate our wedding anniversary,

Traffic luckily behind us
